A very nice mass.

"'Missa Sancta et immacula' by Spaniard Francisco Guerrero has all the parts of a conventional Latin mass and to my ears, these works are distinguished by how little they sound Spanish in comparison to similar masses written in Italy, France, Germany, or England around the same time. The mass has clearly left the starkly plain polyphony of the Middle Ages, but it does not yet seem to achieve the heights of later greats such as Schutz, Montiverdi, and Bach.
To the amateur listener, this is a fine intermediate piece, well done, as usual, by Hyperion, on smaller works (They do not do quite as well on great works such as Bach's 'Mass in B Minor')."
