Synopsis
Product Description Foxy Shazam's music is an unhinged, maniacal mix of piano, guitar, howling vocals, double-kickdrum percussion, and rock & roll theatrics. The quintet hails from Cincinnati, OH, where bandmates Eric Nally (vocals), Loren Turner (guitar), Daisy (bass), Sky White (piano), and Joe Halberstadt (drums) first joined forces. Citing influences as varied as Marvin Gaye, Elton John, Van Morrison, Iggy Pop and 'Born To Run'-era Bruce Springsteen, Foxy Shazam has been creating unique, genre-defying music since they formed in 2004. Foxy Shazam released their last album, 'Introducing,' in January 2008 on venerable indie label Ferret Music and have been taking their good times mobile ever since. Foxy have been touring constantly all over the US, playing in venues and bars and basements. This commitment has paid off: their notorious live show is a thing of beauty and has won them a dedicated cult of followers. The self-titled 'Foxy Shazam' is their debut album for Sire Records. CD ReviewsFoxy Shazam. Self Titled? MPardyM | 06/28/2010 (5 out of 5 stars) "Let's face it. Every Foxy album is a different genera than the last. This album is way more indie meet's arena rock. Foxy, once again, beautifly blends fantastic piano work with a breathtaking vocal range performance by Eric. And not to mention blending serious topics with outrageous humour. So many great songs from this record. A Must have in any music collection. I highly recommend "Connect", "Killin' It", "Oh, Lord!" and "Count Me Out". For fans of "Queen", "Tokyo Police Club", and "The Reverend Al Sharpton"." There sure are a lot of dogs out this evening... J. R. Borntrager | MN | 06/25/2010 (4 out of 5 stars) "I am going to try and be brief with this review. I saw Foxy Shazam live with Tub Ring a few years back and was hooked from the start. Their live show is unmatched in intensity, in passion, or soul. And honestly, that's what I hear when I listen to Foxy, a band with TONS of soul. Some may say Marvin Gaye is what soul music was about, but listen to the way this band works together as musicians, and on certain songs- I don't think there's a better band out there today that could pull off what they do so well.
The first cd I had of theirs was "Introducing". That album is a little less polished it seems in regards to production and of song structure. That isn't to say they didn't have structure, but honestly, this one is alot more defined but still has that "HOLYCRAPITSFOXYSHAZAMDOINGWHATTHEYDO!" factor. And honestly, these guys should be gaining more momentum, they deserve it. The songs are catchy, mind blowing, rebellious and ANYTHING YOU WANT THEM TO BE! Honest opinion-buy this album. It has so much talent you'll wonder why you never had it before. And to Foxy Shazam, thank you for this amazing disc. Songs to review: Bombs Away, Oh Lord, Killin' It or any other song on this disc!" |
