Album DescriptionSOUTHPORT/NORTHPORT Records teams up with the Chicago based Y.M.I RECORDING label with the national release of the FOXFIRE debut CD, GATO. In the tradition of original Chicago rock that dates back to the early 60s, FOXFIRE presents 9 bold new original tracks that feature the compositional styles of all members. Veterans of the Chicago club and concert scene, FOXFIRE is a blend of rock and pop, along with soul and blues elements. Bassist, vocalist and composer John Magnan serves up three original compositions. Check out cut #2, "YO GINA" as it offers a hard punk urban energy that tells the sad story of the death of Gina Basile, who at age 17 was killed by a gang banger's bullet. In a lighter and opposite mode there is an island/ska groove to the whimsical Magnan track #6, "SHORT LAMENT". Guitarist, composer and vocalist Tim Chernak brings his melodic gifts to #1, "THE ONE FOR ME", and the soul influenced #8, "LADY LUCK". Keyboardist, composer and vocalist Theo Phillips shows off his incredible vocal range on the rockin' track #3, "THE SAME WORLD" #7, "BACK IN ' 89". The musical essence of Chicago rock began and lives in its neighborhoods. These are songs that people can sing along to- a concept that has been missing from the current rock scene. With three composer members FOXFIRE is a testament to the Chicago sound that was happening years back by bands like Styx, The Buckinghams and Chicago. Band members: Tim Chernak-guitar and vocals, John Magnan-bass and vocals, Theo Phillips-keyboard and vocals, Brian Sugarman-drums, Ken Miyake-acoustic guitar and harmonica(6/7/8), Art Gigler-drums(1/2)
