CD Reviews

Stay with the "old" Focus
J. E. Gatica | Cleveland, OH United States | 07/30/2007
(1 out of 5 stars)

"This is a waste of money, purchase one or two songs at iTunes or Yahoo Music and convince yourself before you order the CD. I feel I was misled by some of the glowing reviews in this list (as obviously many people liked it) ... don't let that happen to you, if you truly liked Moving Waves, Focus III and Hamburger Concerto; "try it first" ... if you were excited with "Mother Focus" ... go ahead, you might find this production worth your money ...

It sounded to me as a group of old rockers trying to play all their hits at once; some songs are really pathetic (shameful? maybe commercial) attempts to exploit their past ... full of riffs and short stints of pieces from "Moving Waves" ... Van Leer was a super musician, I am sure he has a lot of creativity (and talent) left ... They should have tried new music/pieces ...

One can see that with the departure of Jan Akkerman, Focus lost 50% of its strength (listen to some of Akkerman latest productions if you want to re-live old glories) ... Unfortunately in one of his latest interviews Akkerman didn't give much hope to perspectives of a reunion.

There was very little to rescue, maybe one song (or part of) ... after trying to listen all songs for a few times, I dusted off the old Focus collection and I filed this CD deep in my collection ..."
