Album DescriptionIn these six Flute Concertos composed by 18th century Italian masters, the compositional time span covers most of the 18th century; but all six concertos share the particular kind of grace and lyricism we associate with artistic manifestations of the rococo period: energetic allegros, long lyrical adagios, intensely dramatic passages, virtuosic and demanding dialogues between soloist and orchestra. The light and color of Venice permeates the music, particularly in the Vivaldi and Albinoni; but each of the six concertos reveals individual characteristics that make for multiple surprises and delights. The entire program and Mr. Trevisani's solos are immeasurably enhanced by his collaboration with Constantine Orbelian and the Moscow Chamber Orchestra. Stylistically secure string playing, all rococo grace combined with structural strength, supports the soloist's most extravagant utterances and completes the portrait of the flute soloist as the newest prima donna on the musical scene in an 18th century Italy addicted to the vocal beauties of grand opera.
