"I've never heard of the Florian Ross Trio before, until that late evening broadcast on a Belgian radio programme("De tuin van Eden" on radio Klara) somewhere spring 2007. I heard a piano trio playing the song "Obvious" and it immediately catched my attention: bizar structure but so melodic. And that's just what you can expect from this trio: very melodic and original song structures. Whether you listen to "Tizzie Whizzie", "Obvious", "Heads up", "Petit Paul"(Fantastic song!!!)You'll always come to the same conclusion: original and great tracks. I also enjoyed the ballad "Compared to what?" and would like to recommand Coltrane's "Giant steps" as well(the way it was rearranged did make it part of that overall Florian Ross sound)Expect no Bill Evans nor Keith Jarrett , nor Brad Mehldau clone, because the strenght of this first Florian Ross Trio CD stands from my personal point of view from the songs more than from virtuosity. But if you're searching a very nice jazz CD for an intimate moment(66min 52sec) on a winter evening, ...you've found it!"
