CD ReviewsA great lost Groovies album Robert E. Mcauliffe | St. Louis, USA | 09/29/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "Haven't read anything with respect to whether this might be an unauthorized release. AIM was a respected Australian pop label from the 80s and they certainly seemed to be working with the Groovies on singles projects at the time. I would add that my version from the early 90's (also on AIM) has a way different cover than the one pictured here. Either way, this album has 5 or 6 tracks not found on any other Groovies album that I know of. One of them, "Step Up", is in the same vein as "Shake Some Action" and very nearly as good. And, as you should know, that's high praise! "Searching" is a Merseybeat pop nugget that would have fit in beautifully on any of the Groovies' first two Sire albums. And if you don't possess "I'm Only What You Want Me To Be" elsewhere (available on "Rock Juice" e.g.), this would be as good a place as any to get it. It's the song Roy Orbison would have TORN UP had he lived; almost as majestic here with Cyril singing.
So, how you say "no" to this album, if you are a Goovies fan (or an early Beatles fan!), I don't know." |
