Further departure

"Just wanted to add a note to the reviewer before me that Biscuits For Breakfast was NOT Fink's first release...Fresh Produce was his first. The aforementioned second release, Biscuits For Breakfast, and this most recent, Distance And Time, are polar shifts from the first. Continuing where he left off with Biscuits, this album is wholly a stronger effort with stronger lyrics and in my opinion, slightly cleaner production.

For any new listeners who are not familiar, Fink falls somewhere between the voice and lyrics of Mike Doughty (Soul Coughing) minus the experimentation (which was left on the experimental though simultaneously safe Fresh Produce), crossed with Jose Gonzalez after having received a shot of backbone.

Definitely worth checking out. Great album.

Trouble's What You're In, This Is The Thing, & So Many Roads are the three stand-outs on this very solid album. Make It Good, a song which made a reworked appearance on Bonobo's most recent release Days To Come, may suffer if you've heard the latter first.

Mostly Coffee Shop fare....

I wouldn't have purchased this album at a regular price, but I took a chance at $1.99. It doesn't disappoint at that price.

This is mostly coffee shop / Sunday morning music, except for Blueberry Pankcakes, which is a nice workout/dance song.

There are so few male voices in this genre (compared to say, Regina Spektor, Dido, Feist, KT Tunstall, etc) that I wanted to get some sexual balance into my portfolio of folk music. That's not to say this guy is on a level with those female performers, he is not quite there yet.

When I downloaded, the given genre was Alternative Rock, which fits for Blueberry Pancakes - but I changed the rest to be "Folk" genre.

My rating is 3 stars.
