New Feel; Same Brilliance

(5 out of 5 stars)

"FictionJunction YUUKA does it again with another opening theme song. From what I have seen of the anime, the song perfectly fits the themes. Kouyaruten, loosely translates to "flowing wilderness", which is a feeling that you get throughout the song. On the B side is another excellent song "blessing" which is from the musical "Angel Gate" in which singer Yuuka Nanri is the lead.

Kouyaruten however,is easily one of the best songs that the duo put out. It is the perfect blend of the beautiful singing of Yuuka Nanri and the outstanding composition skills of Yuki Kajiura. Yuki Kajiura's typical violin sound is overlapped with a traditional Japanese instrament that sounds a lot like a shamisin. The two stringed instraments duet in the background of the predominately pop sound. This is not a problem, though as Kajiura-san balances the two sounds perfectly, letting the strings flit to the forfront then back. Along with the strings is the Kajiura trademark flute, that weaves throughout the song.

In "blessing" Nanri-san is able to show her control over her voice. She jumps back and forth from higher octaves to lower ones many times. although the verse is repeated throughout, the song grows soft and then gathers strength; which is the song's strong point. It is a great song that complements "Kouyaruten"

There are also two instramental counterparts that show off Kajiura-san's talent. This is a treat as the instramentals can stand on their own.

I have followed FictionJunction YUUKA since the duo first had "Akatsuki no Koruma" as an instert song in the anime, Gundam Seed. Every song is something new to listen to and every time is a new experience. The dou has only released one album, called "Destination" which is aslo wonderful. I hope that they release their second soon. I highly recomend this single to everybody.
