The Master of Trance Forges a Vital Album For The Genre!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"It blows my mind how many people don't know who Ferry Corsten is. While Tiesto, Van Dyk and Oakenfold have blown up with major label deals and become household dj names, Corsten, one the true pioneers of the trance genre, the #6 dj in the world(arguebly #1), and the mind behind some of the greatest trance productions ever conceived in a Studio(Gouryella(formely with Tiesto), System F, and Veracocha)has somehow remained untainted by the the conventions of the scene. While Tiesto, Van Dyk and Oakenfold have all released artist albums, they have generally, with the exception of a few quality tracks, fallen way short of expectation and become more of burden than a victory to the trance scene. Several years ago, at a time when Trance was in it's infancy and the production quality of tracks was starting to show that the scene needed a new direction, Corsten moved the world with his System F track "Out of the Blue." It is no coincidence that again, at a time when the Trance scene is starting to show signs of wear and age, Corsten breathes new life into it with his latest album. Anyone who has tracked Corsten's growth as an artist with his many brilliant classic remixes, to his original genre defining tracks knows that this is man is completely comprehends what drives the trance genre. And instead of falling victum to following the conventions of the genre, like his many contemporaries, Corsten forges his own path through the jungle of trance possibilities. The result is one of the most original and inventive electronic music albums ever released in years. While many have claimed certain djs, turned artist producers, have sold their souls to the devil, Corsten has proven time and time again that he is a true pioneer of the scene and an undeniable musical genius. I won't even talk about the tracks, except to say that at a time where everything starts to sound the same in Trance, this album is a bright light of hope that is sure to inspire an entire generation of producers to move out of their shells, and into new territory. Corsten is light years ahead of everyone."

"I've waited for the day I could by this album. I knew it was going to be a great album. Ferry Corsten is gifted. He's my favorite DJ out of everyone else and his production work is true art.
Ferry Corsten's new album Right Of Way contains songs like his hit single "Punk". That was my favorite song in 2003. I would always hum the melody and say "Digital Punk, Digital Punk, Digital Punk...." in that deep monster voice. Plus I think it'll make a great sports anthem to play like during hockey intermissions. There's also "Rock Your Body Rock". This is another great song by Corsten and what's cool about the CD single is that it's only 99 cents! I like the robot vocals (Let's f***, I wanna rock your body rock). There's the single "Right Of Way" in the album Right Of Way as well. I'm beginning to become addicted to the "Right Of Way" single even though it's almost eight minutes long. It sounds spacey and I like that. There's also "Whatever!" which features the vocals of Esmee Bor Stotjin. She also did "It's Time". I like the beats in "It's Time". Another vocalist on here is Shelley Harland. Shelley Harland is the vocalist for "Skindeep" and "Holding On". Both the songs featuring Shelley Harland are slower than the other songs on here. And there's the beginning track "Sublime" which is just as long as the "Right Of Way" single but also another good song. There's also "Star Traveller", "Show Your Style", "Kyoto", "Sweet Sorrow", "In My Dreams" and more.
On the DVD there's music videos of "Punk", "Rock Your Body Rock", and "Right Of Way". The "Punk" video was kind of kooky, but I liked it. I love the "Rock Your Body Rock" video. Ferry Corsten's playing a video game controlling a gymnast. It also features a video biography, an interview and "Punk" live at Club Glow in Washington.
I cannot imagine what Ferry'll come up with next. This guy's has true talent. I actually saw Corsten spin at Avalon in Boston on NYE 2004 and as I'm typing this, I have to say that that night is the best night of the year so far for me. I'll fly to Ferry's home country the Netherlands to see him again. AWESOME JOB FERRY!"

"...and what a wait it's been. This is the first album under Ferry Corsten's own name & it's a marked improvement on his last effort, "Together" - under his most famous guise, System F. That was only released in Japan and when you hear it, you can see why. It was a cheap, tacky load of rubbish and Ferry must have been paid a lot of money to make it otherwise i'd like to think that he wouldn't have bothered. "Right of way" is a return to form showing his distinctive style in variety of tracks on offer here. Whether it be trance, electro, it even gets a bit rocky in places. Bear in mind however that recent album releases by trance stalwarts Three Drives and newcomer-ish, Mirco de Govia, knock socks off this album but they are in a class of their own & Ferry certainly has some new competition doing the rounds. That said, "Right of way" is solid, extremely danceable & well produced. It includes the single "Punk", plus new single "Rock, body rock" (one of the strongest tracks) plus some System F sounding tracks like "Star traveller" & "Kyoto". I've only given it 3 stars because all it lacks really is a bit of originality. That said, i'm still a huge fan. The question remains though, have Ferry's best tunes come & gone now? judge for yourself."
