Attractive, but...

"This symphony was written with the 100th anniversary of Schubert's untimely death in mind. (It takes the booklet, translated from the German, about three pages to say the same thing.) These symphonies of Weingartner are all interesting, some good melodies and all are very well orchestrated. The 2nd is one of the great symphonies of all time. The third is maddening. First two movements are good, the third is outstanding, only to be followed by a silly, trivial 4th movement that makes me want to slap Weingartner up side the head. The 1st, 4th, 5th and now 6th symphonies are attractive without being particularly memorable. I play them off and on and while I always enjoy hearing them, nothing really sticks with you (excepting the 2nd & 3rd, for different reasons). I started with these & I'll keep buying them through the end, but with less & less enthusiasm."
