CD ReviewsLucky Find Eric Collins | Fairlawn, OH United States | 09/14/2001 (4 out of 5 stars) "Most of us buy a CD because we already like the artist, it received great reviews, or was recommended by someone with similar tastes. This is also true for me, but every now and then I like to take a flyer on something that just looks interesting. I saw "Feet Of Clay" in a used CD store, liked the band's name and song titles, and thought "what the heck." As it happens, I like this CD far more than most of the ones I've shelled out list price for. Feet of Clay turns out to be a fine power pop trio from Milwaukee, featuring Ralph Bruner on lead guitar. Bruner is the kind of guitarist I've always loved - talented enough to show off, but tasteful enough not to play all over the songs. His six-string mastery gives the songs bite, while retaining a pop sound. Highlights here are many, including the lead track, "Falling Down," the sunny "Good Things," and the nicely-layered "Coming Home." My only quibble is that the moody and atmospheric second track, "Top Of the World," should probably have been dropped down in the song order to allow the pop identity of the band to be established first, but that's a minor gripe considering the quality of the album. And any group that calls their home studio "Shemp's" is okay in my book..."
