"My review regards volume 1 and 2 on Blue note, this one and the other album with the same cover turned on orange (this is the yellow one). I think these albums are among the best of the bebop era. For real. Fats was a tremendous trumpet player extremely talented and in control of every melodical and harmonical aspect of this music. His solos are among the best trumpet solos I have ever heard. No doubt. He stands in the major league with Diz, Brownie and Lee Morgan. The music here was recorded in few sessions from 1947 to 1949 so it is bebop, not hard bop, but pure bop. The enthusiasm of discovery is absolutly clear and is marvellous to feel how proudly they presented their new music to the world. It is contagious! You can breath they knew thay had created something timeless, it is fantastic! Some of the best cats played here with Fats starting with the amazing pianist and composer Tadd Dameron (plus Ernie Henry, Charlie ROuse, Klook aka Kenny Klarke, Curly Russell, Wardell Gray etc). You'll find here even Miles Davis and Howard McGhee as guests trumpet players. This same music has been repackaged in the double cd "Fats navarro and Tadd Dameron" so be careful. So if Bird lives, Fats lives too for sure!"
