"I had the Oistrakh Trio in both the Rachmaninov/Quintessence vinyl label and the Ravel/Monitor cd label back in 1980, which I still have. Its a miracle both are re-issued on a single cd.
Both are the finest performances in these works.
If you have not heard Ravel's trio, you may find it is a deeply moving work. An essential cd."
Intensely beautiful music making!

Oistrakh Trio gives very strong and intensely beautiful performances of the both works. The pianist Lev Oborin is widely known as Oistrakh's accompanist, but he is a formidable and sensitive pianist in his own right, comparable to other Russian masters.
Commentary note says, "The playing of this ensemble is distinguished by its special understanding, the finesse of their musical feelings, the poetry nombined with classical balance and severity." I can't agree more. MONO recording but reasonably well recorded.
