CD Reviews

FALCO Rides once more....
Jamey Sadownick | Woodstock, NY | 07/14/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is Falco's final original recording before his death on Feb.6, 1998. Falco was a unique musical genius that successfully mixed English, German, Italian, rock, rap and pop into one tight package. The album begins with a political piece "No Time For Revolution", and then heads into the power ballad, one of Falco's finest, "Out Of The Dark" - very strong musically and lyrically, about his battle with drugs that would eventually help lead to his untimely death. The album is fun also! Dance hits like "Shake", and satirical songs like "EGOIST" really help capture the Falco essence. And of course, "Der Kommissar 2000", a hot update to Falco's original hit back in 1982. I highly highly recommend buying this album, as it is on it's way to Out Of Print status!"
Not his best, but

"if you ever had any appreciation for any other Falco albums, this is a definite must-have for a number of reasons. First, obviously, sadly, Falco will no longer be making any more music (at least in this life), so any Falco fan needs to have his last will + testament, if you will. Second, the Falco fan will be happy to know that he left us a very powerful cd, not his best mind you, but a very good one nevertheless. In "Out of the Dark," one can feel Falco looking deep within himself. There is also the playful "Shake," which almost makes you feel as if you're back in the good ol' 80's. I feel that Falco was beating a dead horse with "Der Kommissar 2000," (how many versions of this song do we need?) but all things considered I guess it's nice to have one more version of it. "Egoist" and "No time for Revolution" are both very good songs. The others are sort of on the weak side (especially "Cyberlove" with its very cheap-sounding background). Good bye Falco...we miss you."
A final burst of light

"Some fireworks arch through the sky with a glowing trail, disappear, and then explode as they fall, with one final bang of glory. This CD does not match Falco's work from early in his career. Some of the tracks are unfortunate experiments. However, other tracks crackle and burn brightly. The title track is dramatic and moving. Hit Me is an intensely sensual Falco masterpiece, climaxing with his trademark, almost operatic arrangement dueling with the lead guitar. Fantastic! Unlike some of his later work, narcissism is at a minimum and his humor is active. Koks ist da, Cyberlove, Egotist, and Naked make me smile, even without understanding the German. Recommended for fans, but look elsewhere for your first Falco CD."
