"This is a nearly indispensible disc of one of garage rock's most high, The Wailers. No, not the Jamaican Wailers, but the Washingtonian Wailers whom were at the forefront of the Seattle rock scene in the mid-60s.
You may note this release's hefty price tag for a single disc, especially in light of the fact that At the Castle is more readily available at a more standard cost. While At the Castle is often cited as the band's most important release (and it is arguably the better of the two here), the fact of the matter is that Wailers & Co. is not available elsewhere on cd, at least as far as I can tell. That being the case, this release is the only cd to contain the Wailers' version of "Louie, Louie," bridging the gap between Richard Berry's original recording and the Kingsmen/Raiders versions which went on to cement the song's status as one of the most essential (and notorious) rock songs in American history. The Wailers' version is excellent and, I would argue, essential on a number of levels. It is the first rock rendition of the tune, for starters. This version, more than Berry's served as the blueprint for the numerous versions to appear following its release and regional success. It is also the first version to include "Let's give it to 'em right now," which Dave Marsh argues embodies the entire spirit of the song.
I'll stop before I get into an even longer rant on "Louie." Just know that this release packages together two great albums from a highly underrated garage group (and also includes bonus tracks). In short, it's worth the price."

"I grew up dancing at the Castle to the Wailers. I still love their sound and am enjoying the CD."
