CD ReviewsLacking originality, but they make up for it in pure talent Hater of the Human Race | Under a Serpent Sun in Cincinnati, Ohio | 06/01/2000 (4 out of 5 stars) "The Everdawn is pretty much a completely unknown band. It is kind of suprising that nobody really picked up on this band considering that some people just love the melodic death "Gothenburg" sound. This album, to me at least, sounds almost exactly like At the Gates without quite as much variety. The thing about it that really sticks out is the guitar, which seems to usually be the lead instrument in this style of music. The guitar playing is very fast and technical. As I mentioned before there isn't a whole lot of variety and all of the songs sound pretty similar. However, the lyrics on this album are very good. Semi-poetic and rather well written. I don't really know much about this band, but assuming they're still together i'd say they have what could be a bright future ahead of them. Especially if they could add a few element into their music that would give them a more distinct and multi dimensional sound. Fans of more popular bands such as In Flames, At the Gates, Dark Tranquility, and Hypocrisy should definitely check them out!" Dual Poems Burn The Past haskpts | 05/13/2010 (4 out of 5 stars) "Because I (and others I'm sure) end up ordering a re-released version of a CD and some Amazon sellers don't bother to even compare things like artwork I can't tell you how many times I have received the wrong CD. Anyway, 2 versions as of May 2010 exist of The Everdawn - Poems Burn The Past.
This album had been re-released in 2003 by Hammerheart Records with new cover artwork (an angel in the left hand corner staring at the poem book, a wine goblet is also on the left of the poem book); the original release had a pistol on the left side of the poem book and a rose on the right part of the book. The new release contains four bonus tracks (from the "Opera Of The Damned" EP) - for a total of 12 tracks (the original has 8 tracks). Yes, the song "Opera Of The Damned" was re-recorded so this disc has two versions of that. Both are very good ... the redone version has better production. 1. Territory Loss 2.
