"Finally, a fresh interpretation! Joao's phrasing is full of subtleties which are not heard in other interpretations. His playing is certainly much better than the shrill sound of Gould or the unmusical playing of Schiff. He adds to Bach's music a depth which is not heard very often, especially in modern performances. This is a record which one can listen to many times and still find something new in a known piece. It is as Bach's music should be played."
