CD ReviewsRock and roll is here to stay. Johnny Heering | Bethel, CT United States | 04/24/2005 (4 out of 5 stars) "Esquerita is best known for being the man who taught Little Richard how to play the piano. After Little Richard became a star, Capitol Records signed Esquerita to a recording contract. He was sort of "Capitol's answer to Little Richard". Most of his songs were in the Little Richard vein, although a few of them are closer to Ray Charles in spirit. Unfortunately, all his records were big flops, even though most of them were quite good. Not quite up to Little Richard's level, but almost at the level of (say) a Larry Williams. This CD collects every song Esquerita recorded for Capitol Records. Fans of obscure early rock and roll should check it out." This CD has been re-released on Collectibles! Darin Tysdal | Bloomington, MN 55420 | 10/10/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "This Capitol Collector's CD has been reissued on the Collectibles label. For those who have read about Esquerita in the "Incredbly Strange Music" books, this is essential. His life was rather wild, according to the book. I have to keep on listening to the music, but so far I wonder what the fuss is all about. I applaud the "Collectibles" label for bringing us some forgotten and out-of-print recordings.
