CD ReviewsLess than five stars??? Get out! Fritz Katzenjammer | New York, NY | 05/26/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "This was my first Esham CD. I walked around for 3 hours visiting about a dozen stores before I found it, I was afraid it would disappoint me. It turned out to be the most extreme disc I'd ever listen to. The production is off-the-wall. Esham is wicked to the core on this album. Two collaborations with Kool Keith. A couple with members from the Dayton Family, members of Natas, but most of this album is the creation of Esham the Unholy and his diverse, multi-talented guitar-playing man, Santos. Santos has to be mentioned because he adds spanish guitar and electric guitar to about half the tracks. A lot of fresh sounds to say the least. Drum machines, wild spacey keyboard work, bass (and more), make the tasty background to Esham's wicked rhymes on Tongues.I read one review that accuses Esham of trying to get famous through the dozens of Eminem disses. It's probably true, but when you consider a lot of Eminem's ideas were Esham's years before and delivered twice as nice. Just take a listen to "Envy the Sunshine" from this album where Esham sings to his daughter. An effort that actually works in comparison to Eminem's whiney, N'Syncish, trite and insipid ditty titled "Hailies Song" that came out a mere year later. Esham should have more recognition, especially after Eminem sent D-12 to beat the living hell out of him for all the disses on this album. Is Esham still underground? You betcha. This album didn't sell any more copies than it would have had he not dissed Eminem from all sides, but that's not even what this album's about. As always, Esham is being experimental and controversial. That's why his true admirers follow his career. No filler and no skits! Esham doesn't let up with the entertainment on this truely unconventional rap album with brilliant experiments and memorable collaborations by big underground rap stars and the porno chick, of course. A dense, textured classic rap album from an underground legend. It will knock the socks off any casual listener and satisfy the hardcore fan. Praises! Praises!" You Should Be Avoiding My Recording F. Dean | UK | 04/19/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "Here is a cd every rap fan should have, its awesome, 24 tracks no skits all complete hardcore uncut Acid Rap from the king Esham The Unholy Walkin on da Flatline:Awesome opener, one of the best on the album, beat is ok, lyrically good and chorus is great and catchy. 5/5 Slippin out Amerikkka: Beat is great, lyrics ok, has a guy called Mujahid saying things im muslim on here as well. 4/5 D:Short song about E gettin chased by cops, ok lyrics, there is a short bit in the middle where drums and guitar come in which is good. 4/5 I'm Dead: Ok song i like the lyrics betta than the beat and i aint keen on the hook. 3/5 Panic Attack: The song is crazy, it features Violent J from ICP, lyrics are crazy, beat is good, they both do good on the track and E's last verse is great. 5/5 Chemical Imbalance: Another great short track, beat is good, gives a sick diss at Eminem and his daughter Haley which goes like this 'They won't let me on MTV I'd beat up Carson Daly And remind Eminem of D'Angelo Bailey Haley's in a coma, Haley's in a coma I smell the aroma, of a dead body Chemi-cal imbalance Chemi-cal imbalance Chemi-cal imbalance Chemi-cal imbalance' 5/5 God:Good lyrics, beat is ok and the hook is good aswell: 4/5 Detroit 101: Great song with MastaMind, beat is ok then gets funky guitar beat when MM spits it: 5/5 Poetry: Beat is ok but lyrics are great: 4/5 Everyone: Wicked Beat and Wicked Lyrics, love this song: 5/5 Crash & Burn: To me the worst track on the cd, i dont like the beat but lyrics are ok: 2/5 Mr. Negativity: Wicked track, E is taking shots at the industry here with lines like 'I ain't got s**t positive to say About any rapper on the mic today Cause ain't no rap groups out that I know That make me wanna listen to the hoe ass radio All I hear is motherf**kers tryin ta make a comeback With pop styles or 50 ni**az on a track That s**t is wack, ya need ta be smacked With the grill of the Cadillac': 5/5 Pill Me (Feel My Prescription): Nice chillout song here, beat and lyrics are good, it also has a nice female hook: 4/5 Brain Surgery: A great track here with Mastamind again and also Shoestring from the Dayton Family, has an evil beat, all 3 spit pretty good but E has the best verse which includes more anti Eminem lines like this 'Pimped Boomin Words From Hell way before D-12 Tell me your favorite white rapper act like a female B*tch, slit ya wrist like ya dumb wife, Kim Scribble my name on the wall, I love E-S-H-A-M': 5/5 Devilsh*t: Track here with Kool Keith, great beat and lyrics here and only with Esham would have him doin a track with Violent J on Track 5 only to diss him on this track callin him racist and 2 faced: 5/5 All Night Everyday: Track here with Kool Keith and porn star Heather Hunter who spits a pretty good verse on here as does Esham but KK has the best verse: 5/5 I Know: Beat and lyrics are good as is the hook as well: 4/5 So Selfish: Awesome song here, beat is great as is the lyrics and hook: 5/5 Envy the Sunshine: Eminem copied this track on his 3rd album by callin it Haley's Song and failed this one is so much better, this is dedicated to E's daughter, nice beat and lyrics and nice hook by Brittany Hurd and Santos (co producer): 5/5 Love: Song with TNT has a good beat and lyrics are good, E has the best verse: 4/5 Gloczup: A whole song for Eminem here, gets dissed bad, Lyrics are mad and beat is very weird but good: 5/5 Intro (Hallucinagenics): Another crazy song, love the bit wher loud drums come in the middle: 5/5 Skydive: Good song lyrics are better than beat but beat is still good: 4/5 F**k a Lover: Dayton Family appear on here, beat is good, it has gangsta type lyrics, Shoestring has the best verse: 5/5 Overall: Classic album, Eminem gets dissed alot on this album which is good, one of the best Rap albums from 2001 or maybe the best, get this cd, it is a breath of fresh air compared to the crap now in 2005, things like Candy Shop by 50 Cent, even track 10 on this album has better lyrics than the whole of 50's new one. " Esham flips the script again!!! Saint Sangre | rockford, il. United States | 06/20/2001 (4 out of 5 stars) "at first listen, the new Esham album may seem unorganized and definatly bizarre but after listening to it all week, I think Esham is back to re-define the term "acid rap"..here is over 20 tracks of some of the most hardcore underground rap to drop this summer..Esham's beats on this album are backed by electronic beeps, haunting keyboards, and all sorts of hi-tech fuzz. Lyrically, Esham is in top form on TONGUES. He is mad and vents through acidic and drugged out musicscapes. The songs don't always follow any form and sometimes like to switch without warning. This is a very experimental album for Esham and may catch fans off hand but it takes some getting use to. Some tracks that I liked right away was the opener "Walkin On Da Flatline" that drops an amazing beat and lets the underground know The Unholy is back. Also "Mr.Negativity", "GOD", "Devilsh*t" caught my ear because of their bizzare edge...almost every other song has an Eminem diss in it and that can get repetitive but still this is recommended to the hardcore Esham fan.."
