Great later album from a prolific but underrated jazz man

"A jazz saxophonist whose experience dates back to the 60s and cites John Coltrane and Buddy Rich as influences, this 1985 album finds Ernie Watts going for a more modern sound but still demonstrating strong solid musicianship that makes this album sound as good for its time as some of his earlier albums sounded when they were new. Like many albums on the Qwest record label, this album definitely has some noticeable R&B touches, and Watts' energetic saxophone playing melds nicely with some of the funky, synthesized beats that give this album its distinctive 1985-ness. Underrated by fiery vocalist Phil Perry contributes vocals to 3 songs, and his soulful, passionate voice only deeper enriches and already solid formula."
