Luhrs | Jackson Heights, NY United States | 02/24/2006 (4 out of 5 stars) "In his brief career, Eric Dolphy found - like far too many other jazz musicians - that his fortunes fared better in Europe than in North America; hence the large number of recordings from the continent available under his name. This one is distinguished by the inclusion of a generous helping of Dolphy's own compositions, as well as by some fine playing. "Left Alone" is one of the Maestro's great flute performances, and "Serene" (in two versions here) dovetails nicely with "Geewee"(GW) and "Miss Ann" to offer a well-rounded picture of Dolphy the composer. Recommended for those already drawn to Dolphy's dark genius. Awesome stuff!"
