"Running order: Morales radio edit/ Yost nothing without you radio edit/ original version/ Morales club mix/ Morales stereo dub/ Yost nothing without you mix/ Yost acoustic tears mix/ Yost lost & found dub. THIS IS A SURPRISE! Clapton's work with UK songwriter/producer Simon Climie just gets better and better. This is a tentative yet well-placed step into up-tempo waters. The original version is superb (with the Todd Terry-like production showing shades of EBTG and a Spanish guitar reminiscent of Bailamos) but the mixes are sublime and well worth trying out. David Morales keeps things strictly simple -no fireworks, no distractions, nothing new- but this works well as the mix threads around Clapton's vocals and that gorgeous guitar. Those classic Morales beats, those deep bass lines, that piano -you've heard it before but they haven't sounded so good in a long time. The Yost mix goes deeper with bossa nova-like beats, jazzy keyboard journeys and mounting percussion. It's much more exciting than his recent work on the EBTG track. The Morales stereo dub is fine but it's the song that truly shines and is missed when listening to the dubs, which are definitely wasted. Yost's acoustic tears mix is boring, repetitive -focusing solely on the guitar work- and it fails to excite. The final dub mix is worse. Stick with the main mixes! One listen and you'll have trouble getting the chorus lines out of your head: "you get lost inside your tears & there's nothing I can do/ `cause I get lost inside my fears & I'm nothing without you". DEFINITELY TOO SWEET TO MISS."
