"If you like straight ahead jazz then this album is a treat. You cannot beat a well recorded live album to really showcase an artist. Eric and his considerable talents are in full force here, recored in Japan. It is all here , pyrotechnics (The Bee Hive) , sweet arrangements of standards (Maybe September and A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square) and even some honky tonk (Stan's Shuffle). The quartet consist of his mentor Harold Mabern on piano, Joe Farnsworth on drums and and Nat Reeves on bass. You will never hear a better saxophone led quartet anywhere. Alexander in my opinion is probably the most outstanding tenor player currently active. That is a profound statement but I have most of his output and he is consistently outstanding, bordering on flawless. Get a glass of wine, put on this CD , down the lights and enjoy."
