(4 out of 5 stars)
"This CD is a double-album that delivers every single Entombed cover they have done throughtout their career. I picked it up expecting something different, and i was right. It is different. Before this i'd never heard an Entombed cover song anywhere, but now that i've heard all of these songs, i'm impressed.
Entombed are extremely influential to all bands nowadays. They created their own unique sound, and have been imitated alot over the years. These cover songs are done in that very same unique Entombed sound, and they sound excellent. I found myself going "Is this really a cover song? It sounds so good, and so much like Entombed!" and that is because of their sound. This CD is great, and is a must have for fans of Entombed. Some of these songs are very rare, and you'd have to search high and low for them and probably never find them still. But they are all here, on this double-album.
I recommend this mainly for all Entombed fans who haven't already got this in their collection. It's a great buy. Some of my favourite songs would be..
Disc 1.
1. Black Breath (Repulsion)
2. Albino Flogged in Black (Stillborn)
3. March of the S.O.D (S.O.D)
4. One Track Mind (Motorhead)
5. God of Thunder (KISS)
6. 21st Century Schizoid Man (King Crimson)
7. Black Juju (Alice Cooper)
Disc 2.
1. Satan (Dwarves)
2. Kick Out The Jams (MC5)
3. Yout' Juice (Bad Brains)
4. Bursting Out (Venom)
5. Under The Sun (Black Sabbath)
6. Vandal X (Unsane)
7. Mesmerization Eclipse (Captain Beyond)
Also, in the booklet the band give their own comments about why they recorded that particular cover song. For example with "March Of The S.O.D (S.O.D)" they say..
"Billy Milano, the singer of S.O.D, asked us to cover a song for a compilation he was putting together. He had a long impressive list of bands paying tribute. Don't know if it ever came out. We did our part. We used to play this alot back in the days. This is the riff everybody should learn first!"
That's just for example, but they do their own little comment for every song. It's pretty cool, and on the back of the booklet it gives you insight into why they put this together. With band member and Guitarist Alex Hellid explaining "We were wondering just how many cover songs we'd actually recorded over the years for various tribute albums, split singles etc. Hence this collection of studio recorded covers."
This CD is a must for Entombed fans. I think it's very good, and the songs don't sound at all like the originals, as Entombed incorporate their own unique sound in all of them. I rate this 4/5"
