"Cistercien chant arose at a time when there were many calls to reform monastic life including the chant. The Cistercians wanted to return to original forms of monastery life using orinal Gregorian chant forms was instituted by Saint Steven Harding during the early 12th Century. The chant performed by the Ensemble Organum. led by Marcel Peres is quite moving especially the Christmas Matins which is sung with beauty brought tears to my eyes. The remainder of the disc is dedicated to the Feast of St. Bernard who was a founder of the Cistercians is also well performed,. The first Responsory which tell about the holy deeds of the saint is also quite exceptional,.
