"For those that are fans of Morricone's music, this is a must buy CD. The first part of the CD displays Morricone's ability to write music in a contemporary style. It is rare that a composer of film ventures into the field of "concert" music, few American composers have the skills in composition to do this. But what can we expect from a composer such as Morricone? The first 5 tracks offer a neat glimpse into his other side The second half is sort of a suite of some of his great film themes, all tied together beautifully. My favorite are the last two tracks, which are the themes from the Mission and Cinema Paradiso. The quality of the recording is excellent. I love the intimacy of it, you can faintly hear the click of the keys when the oboe is played in the Mission's theme. Some may be put off by this, but to my ears it feels like I'm right next to the player listening to him."
