Album DescriptionLiner notes by: Michael Harris Good-natured sincerity is a hallmark of the six composers represented on this recording. Some are classical in theme and structure; others show a marked romantic streak. Some display the occasional hint of French, Spanish or Italian influences. Surprisingly, none betray more than a passing reference to overt Britishisms. What's immediately clear is how gratifying a medium the clarinet is for these composers; with its wide and flexible melodic range and its warm songful timbre, no wonder British composers have eagerly enriched the clarinet's repertoire. Clarinetist Victor Chiodo and pianist Paul Hartley are eloquent and impeccable advocates for this music. This project is clearly a labor of love for them, and their enthusiasm for these works is contagious. Give British music a chance, indeed; just listen -- You'll be glad you did!
