And I Thought "Can't Be Tamed" Was the Worst Album Ever!

"Okay, gotta preface my review by saying that I have been a big fan of Emily's. She was THE reason to watch the Hannah Montana show. The funny, happy-go-lucky girl that everyone would like to have as a best friend. And, if you're a guy, she was a major hottie, too.
I got "All the Right Wrongs" as soon as it hit the stores. I thought her singing was weak, but human. A nice departure from all the pitch-perfect divas out there. And I thought the material, though it would never be mistaken for a great album, was nevertheless very promising and showed a lot of potential. All in all, not a bad debut for the young entertainer.
So, when I saw "Fight or Flight" at my local CD place, I jumped at it. A "must" buy. Imagine my shock and horror when I put it in my car's CD player and heard all the boom-boom-boom, bass up as far in the mix as humanly (or unhumanly) possible, and Emily's voice being run through vocoders and auto-tune so that half the time it sounds like she's singing to you over a telephone. And then there's the attitude in her voice. Every track, trying to be a badass party girl who hangs with the "bad kids." But, in the end, the CD is to be measured for the music. And in this case, I couldn't find anything remotely resembling "music." Nope. Just a lot of noise. For those of you that have the CD, pop out the booklet and look for musician credits. You'll find two or three guys who are credited for keyboards and "programming." Do you guys even know what "programming" is? It's basically computers making the sounds. Did you see a drummer credit? You're listening to computer generated drums (and a whole lot more).
Music should be something where every sound is of a human being singing or physically playing an instrument. That's art. That's talent. Emily has, in the past, talked about how much she loves The Beatles, the 60s, and TRUE rock music. Yet, when she had the chance to put her money where her mouth is, she let her handlers dictate her stylistic direction. Instead of The Beatles, we get Gloria Gaynor. Instead of something showing a classic rock influence, we get the 2010s version of disco.
The album is fine as background noise for running or doing aerobics to, but it is not music by any definition. Emily, if you're out there, can I send my CD back to you for a refund? More importantly, I wish you could answer one simple question: Why did you let your handlers push this junk on you? You have said that you like ROCK music. So, why give us robotic DANCE music?
Very disappointed."
Emily takes "Flight" with this album

"I listened to Emily's EP "All The Right Wrongs" and I didn't find it very impressive. It was just not very interesting, and her voice was just okay at best. Now with her new album "Fight or Flight" Emily has a style that suits her voice and personality. The songs on this album are easily fun and some are meaningful in a sort of melancholy way. She sounds more in control of her voice in this album compared to "All The Right Wrongs" which was kind of all over the place.
The songs on here are completely Pop/Electronic, similar to Selena Gomez's latest album but more sexual I guess. In a way Emily is following the same path as her friend Miley Cyrus but since Emily isn't as popular or interesting she probably will be less successful. Compared to Miley's latest CD, Emily's is different sounding though. But not completely, they both sing about the same subject matter.
My favorite songs are "Double Talk", "Lovesick", "Gotta Believe In Something", and "1-800 Clap Your Hands". Those songs are more substantial lyrically than say her single "Let's Be Friends" and "All The Boys Want". Every single song on this album has a good dance beat and is processed somewhat heavily, making it a slick album. While Emily's voice has personality, it does need help from the computer. Throughout the whole album there is a multitude of effects use to boost her vocals. So if you were looking for raw vocals like songs on her previous EP, then don't pick up this album.
Overall, I enjoyed this album. It seems grown up and sexy, but it isn't outrageous. All these Disney Stars never seem to really get as edgy as they say they will be, so I wasn't surprised. This music is all catchy fun stuff to dance to, with two ballads thrown in for good measure. I commend Emily for finding her sound and helping in the writing process. This album really stands up on its own very well."
Amazing
