Synopsis

Album Description
2004 issued digitally remastered collection from one of the biggest "classical rock" acts who rose to fame in the 1970's. Thanks to heavy airplay on FM radio in the US, the trio's recordings created enough of a buzz to justify releasing a single, their first Top 40 hit "Lucky Man", which became a rock classic standard. But kids knew that ELP was an "album band", not a "singles" band. This collection brings you the best of their recordings, including the phenomenal "Karn Evil 9", the seminal "Fanfare For The Common Man" and even Greg Lake's holiday classic "I Believe In Father Christmas".

CD Reviews

The best in-print compilation
J. C Duval | cumberland, rhode island United States | 08/01/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This two-disc collection is better than the single-disc 'Best Of'. There is one error in the song listing, and it's a big one. The first song on side 2 is listed as "Karn Evil 9, 2nd impression". It is actually "Karn Evil 9 1st impression, part two", and it is the "Welcome back my friends..." piece that we all hear on the radio. So if you're a fan who might be put off by the apparent exclusion of a well-known track, rest assured-all is safe!"
Exhaustive Collection

"After recently hearing ELP on satellite radio I felt the need to add a collection from the group to my CD collection. Unlike other reviewers, I have never owned ELP on CD so I didn't feel ripped off by yet another reissue of their hits (although I have fallen into this trap with the Who).

The sound quality is great on some songs and it is great to hear Fanfare for the Common Man and many other songs on CD. This collection could have been trimmed back a bit, but one of the benefits of CD is the ability to easily skip undesired songs.

If you want to purchase a good summary of ELP this set fits the bill - good sound quality, all the big songs are here. Maybe a bit overblown but a fun collection."
Ultimate, good choice of title

"One of my best purchases. Excellent. "Fanfare for the Common Man" has always been a favourite. Well worth it."
