Time Is Running Out - Elliot Goldenthal, Gray, Howard
Samuel Jackson - Elliot Goldenthal, Devorzon, Barry
In film scoring's best moments it's easy to forget that it's as much craft as art, at best a shotgun marriage of music and commerce. Which is exactly the challenge veteran composer Eliot Goldenthal faced segueing from his ... more »sublime Frida, the rich, Mexican folk-inflected score that netted him an Oscar, to this more traditional Hollywood action vehicle. Goldenthal ably echoes the film's admirable realism-over-stunts mentality with the same brooding, deliciously dark orchestral sensibility he brought to Titus and the surprising Final Fantasy. And then there's the commerce--great dollops of rock guitar and pounding rhythms that often seem grafted on as some sort of marketing enticement. Yet left to his own devices, Goldenthal often proves he's as capable as any of the McClub-oriented tracks commissioned from the likes of Danny Saber and Apollo Four Forty--and on spare, slinky cues like "Don't Shoot Me Baby" and "Three Chords in Two Minutes" (now there's a film scorer's inside joke-title) may just be one step ahead. --Jerry McCulley« less

"I find it rather unfortunate that so many people have sullied the rating of this score simply due to the fact that they were looking for the soundtrack instead. The only tragedy here is that the publishers chose to include 3 unrelated pop songs onto an otherwise fine score.
Pity, as Elliot Goldenthal is the most original composer working in Hollywood today. If you're looking for another big, brass-heavy score, ala John Williams or Jerry Goldsmith, look elsewhere. What you'll find here is simply very creative contemporary classical music set to a movie."

"I can honestly say that Elliot Goldenthal is one of the most
original and innovative composers working today.
Every score he puts out is outstanding, and this one is
very good. SWAT brings back fond memories of the Michael
Mann film Heat which Elliot scored as well as Demolition Man.
You can buy this CD with absolute confidence, you can't
go wrong with Goldenthal."
"S.W.A.T." - Not A Bad CD At All!

"I tell ya, I've never really been a big fan of Elliot Goldenthal. His scores, for me, haven't really hit the mark. Haven't heard his score for "Frida", but hey...it won the Oscar. His score for "Interview With The Vampire" was so-so, and as for his two scores for the Batman films...well, I really missed Danny Elfman. So when I heard that he was doing the score for "S.W.A.T.", I was less than enthused. But after seeing the movie and hearing the score, I had to get the CD. It's really not a bad score at all. It's loud, hard, and I think perfect for this type of film. The massive guitars really add a nice backdrop to the hard-edged routines of S.W.A.T. Of particular interest on this CD comes from a cue that Goldenthal had nothing to do with. Track #8 "S.W.A.T. 911" is an exciting remix of the classic original television S.W.A.T. Theme, performed by Danny Saber. It's a great cue!I probably could have done without the last tune, a hip-hop take on S.W.A.T., oddly named "Samuel Jackson".All in all, this is a good CD, and worth the purchase. It's perfect for working out to. Goldenthal manages to create a propulsive and highly aggressive score for this much anticipated action blockbuster.Even if you don't have any Goldenthal soundtracks on your rack (like me!), this CD will be a welcome addition, and one that will be often heard."

"This sound track contains both, music to jam to and music to work out to!Most songs(about 12)are very energetic, with a high pulse to the beat and a fast pace to the track.
On the other hand, this sound track is as tense to work out to as that of ROCKY!If you're looking for a sound track that does both this is it!"
