CD Reviews

Chanchaneando

"This record is amazing. I purchased it because of the premiere recording of Chan Chan, seven years prior to the Buena Vista Social Club soundtrack. The quality of the recording could not be better. It's engineered so tastefully that I imagine I can smell the wood grain of the instruments. The group's [Cuarteto Patria] original intent was to record the "soneros" of Cuban troubadour tradition. I feel like a lucky voyeur to be able to listen to such divinely inspired songs from the daily lives of generations of Cuban farmers."
One of the Best Son CDs !!!

"this CD is one of the best "Son Montuno/Bolero" recordings i have ever heard !!! no tracks with horns as with the more modern Son stylings- just pure "old style" Son with a grrreat vibe to the music... Compay Segundo really helps Ochoa to sing with a more relaxed feeling & the entire recording is consistently satisfying with it's singing, it's guitars & bongos... this CD as well as Ochoa's "Son de Santiago" & Nico Saquitos' "Goodbye Mr. Cat" CD [on World Circuit] are all just perfect examples of the old style Son that should appeal to all lovers of good Cuban guitar..."
Gotta Have It!

"Eliades Ochoa is one of the Stars of the Buena Vista Social Club. He plays his guitar as if it was part of him. I'm a collector of Buena Vista Social Club music and any album featuring Eliades Ochoa is a must have. His dedication to his instruments (his guitar and his voice) is more, I believe, than what we could expect from a person who does not come from a "Third World" country. His music is born from his passion which comes out in every note. I never get tired of listening to him."
