CD ReviewsProgressive and Promising Joshua Simmonds | Sudbury, MA | 11/03/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) ""These Promises Are Being Videotaped" is an explosive progression for El Ten Eleven. Arguably harder rock than either of their two previous albums, ETE once again shines and delivers a phenomenally upbeat and engaging record. Dunn and Fogarty continue to stun with their ability to manipulate their instruments. Dunn kicks out some seriously head-bouncing bass-work and intricate looping while Fogarty seems to focus more on his electric drum set. Fogarty's blend of complex and skill-demonstrating fills, combined with his aim at simple yet powerful time-keeping make the duo an incredibly dynamic and mesmerizing team.
"These Promises Are Being Videotaped" is yet another awe-inspiring record which demonstrates ETE's ability to rock out with the best of them with such technical prowess as to bring many modern rock bands to shame at their power chords and 4/4 beats. If you've listened to any ETE record before, you certainly won't be disappointed. Notably, songs with intense emotional appeal from days gone by (songs such as Connie or Bye Mom) are not prominent on this record. What seems to be more in the vein of "Every Direction Is North", the band still produces a record worth your time and money. These guys have a lot of potential and they know how to exercise it." |
