CD Reviews

French rock at its best
Xavier | Washington | 04/27/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Great songs, good lyrics, excellent production. You can hear the Pixies in Eiffel's sound, as well as the Buzzcocks. The songs are urgent, and offer no compromises. I agree with the previous reviewer, their adaptation of Boris Vian's poem "je voudrais pas crever" is worth the price of the album. The whole package is catchy and coherent, nothing to trash. The're also an excellent live band. If you're interrested in French Rock, try to get the first and only album by Montecarl."
Je voudrais pas crever avant d'avoir use sa bouche

(4 out of 5 stars)

"For French music, this album sounds quite like British rock. You can easily feel the influence of the Pixies (Eiffel was named after Alec Eiffel... not because of the Eiffel Tower). The melodies are mature, and the lyrics, sometimes a little dumb, stretch between naive teen-angst (Quand est-ce ? Inverse-moi...) and irony / criticism of today's French society (Hype, O Toi...). Note that the Je Voudrais Pas Crever amazing lyrics were first created by Boris Vian. This song alone (when you understand it) is worth buying the album."
Stop the wining

(2 out of 5 stars)

"A friend recommended me this album. I am sorry to say that I can not do the same. I may be a perfectionist demanding a singer with some sort of musical talent. But the singer in this album tends to wine and scream through out the album. If you like that kind of rock than this album is for you. It reminds of some of the lessor bands out of Seattle in the late 90's (in French of course). This album does have some glimpses of light though. The music itself is very interesting, with a mix of that late 90's grunge/rock feel and euro-rock."
