Fine two-fer CD

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Arriba!/Bongos from the South gives us all the tracks from two of Edmundo Ros's record albums entitled Arriba! And Bongos From The South. The quality of the music is quite good and the song selection is classy.

"In A Little Spanish Town" starts off the CD with a whopping good number with all that classic late `50s/early 1960s Latin flavor to it. The musical arrangement makes good use of the percussion and brass; I love it! There's also a fantastic Latin style arrangement of "Get Me Out To the Church On Time," a song from My Fair Lady. The brass and drums make a strong arrangement for "Get Me Out To the Church On Time." Great! "Hello, Dolly" is equally stunning; whenever I hear this number it always makes my heart warm--and with its Latin arrangement "Hello, Dolly" sounds as fresh as ever.

"Oye Negra" has a beautiful flute and the percussion makes this a terrific number for dancing; and "Holiday For Strings" is another excellent dancing tune with a lot of energy. The strings arrangement, predictably, in "Holiday For Strings" is sublime.

"Heartaches" has great lyrics although the musical arrangement makes this a number to dance to; and the zesty tempo helps to make "heartaches" a true highlight of this album. "Lisbon Antigua" has a smooth, classic Latin style to the arrangement; and the strings work wonders to make "Lisbon Antigua" shine so well. Moreover, listen for "Moon Over Miami;" this beautiful number is soothing and stimulating to dance to both at the same time. "Moon Over Miami" is an excellent example of a Latin themed instrumental number.

"Taboo" is a Latin number that has a bit more of a classic feel to it instead of that early `60s flavor; but it all works very well.

Overall, this CD gives you a generous twenty-four tracks from two of Edmundo Ros's record albums entitled Arriba! and Bongos From The South. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
