CD ReviewsNot the same as the DVD but still hilarious D | 12/24/2005 (4 out of 5 stars) "This isn't the same record as the on the DVD. If you're choosing between them, I would definitely recommend the DVD: Eddie is playing for a bigger audience, the crowd is more receptive, and he's a bit more energetic. Since the DVD was for a live HBO special, you can tell that everyone knows the stakes are higher, and Eddie performs brilliantly. The DVD may also be advantageous becaus Eddie is a very physical comedian, and fully appreciating jokes oftentimes requires seeing him.
On the other hand, this album is good in its own right. It's mostly the same material (some chunks are left out from the DVD), and I found it interesting to see him reperform jokes. He's said in interviews that because of his dyslexia, he never writes his material down, so when he performs the same bit, it's always in slightly different language. Fans know that Eddie is always spinning at an extremely fast mental speeed, and jokes are always going to get lost between the cracks. I would definitely recommend this to fans, because I now understand so many jokes that I didn't quite hear or quite understand from the DVD. The material is some of the best that Eddie has ever produced. Choose one, perhaps, the CD or the DVD, but don't let this performance slip through your fingers!" |
