Amazon.comEddie Gonzalez and Grupo Vida emerged as one of the brightest and most inspiring young Tejano groups in the mid-1990s. While other bands were content to play the same straight-ahead cumbia-polka/ranchera rhythms, Gonzalez and Vida exploded on stage with dynamic music and wild choreography. A trademark of the band is the sight of accordionist Sonny Sauceda, whirling and jumping on stage while playing every note. This CD captures that energy with explosive accordion jams and a rhythm section that delivers irresistible dance beats. Highlights include the title track--a cover of an old Cornelio Reyna tune reinvented here. Also generating heat is the pulse-quickening "Botoncito de Carino" and the inspired polka "Por Que Tu Traes Mi Amor." In late 1997 Gonzalez and Grupo Vida went separate ways, each carving out their own destiny. El Disgusto, however, remains one of the top 10 Tejano CDs of the '90s. --Ramiro Burr
