"If you are planning to embark on Ed adventure then this is the start. Released around 1985 this could be considered a debut masterpeice if Ed had not already written epic material with the Saints and Laughing Clowns. This album signalled the departure from the 'punk' Saints and 'experimental' Clowns to Ed's solo style. Every track on this album can be officially considered a classic and the album hangs together real nicely as a document that almost tells a story (more than his other work?). There are no standout tracks but electrical storm has survived the years as a live song that Ed plays and has reappeared many times on various compilations so he must like it a lot. I think the main reason I like Ed so much is his lyrical style and the emotional power of the music. There's loud songs and soft songs serious songs and flippant songs. The best one for me is TOLD MYSELF : a convincing tale of guilt and regret..."they handed down my sentance and I don't know if I'll carry on, I remember that night when my only ray of sunshine was a gun". Start here, the next one to buy is Today Wonder or Serene Machine."
