"Composer/pianist Easley Blackwood is best known for his thorny modern works; works which the composer describes as "on the brink of atonality". The pieces on this disc represent a return to tonal writing. This music is fascinating on its own terms..some of it arose from Blackwood's experiments with microtonal scales, some of it represents conscious attempts to emulate the styles of other composers, but it never sounds derivative or boring. Nor would these pieces raise the hackles of people who "hate modern music". Blackwood is one of the most original and innovative composers living, and he should be more widely heard and performed. Very highly recommended!"
