"If you have or will read my review of Restless Heart's Greatest Hits CD, you will know that I am not a fan of country music. But great music always has a way of finding you and this is great music.
What I like most about the music here is the "pop sensibility" of the tunes, that meaning basically there is cross-over potential to these songs, they aren't completely pure country, they have some good hooks. On top of that, 80s country music was FAR better than what country fans of today are used to. But I'm not here to discuss that.
Honestly, I don't know much about ETC. I found this tape back in the early 90s, it belonged to my step dad, and I used to run off with it and play it on my little portable cassette radio. I don't know why I was drawn to it, but I was and I really enjoyed it, and I played that cassette over and over and over....this could go on forever. Anyhow, years and many moves later that cassette is long gone but a few months ago I was surfing the net and seen his name appear on a website. I instantly remembered him and his music, and looked to actually owning that album again, but this time it would be on CD. I couldnt actually find it anywhere (In Canada, seems it was/is out of print) but I managed to find a used copy in great shape, and once again I am proud to say I own it, for real, on CD. And when I played it again I was not disappointed. I love this music.
For me, this all the ETC I will need. Released in 1985, it has 10 tracks, including 2 (at that time) previously unreleased tracks "Nobody Falls Like A Fool" and "Once In A Blue Moon", and they are in my opinion the best cuts on the album. "Angel In Disguise", "I Have Loved You Girl" and "Your Love's on the Line" are also great.
The average metalhead won't even take a glance at this, but then I am not your average metalhead. I love the (hard rock/metal) genre with a passion, but I don't deprive myself of good music, and you shouldn't either. What you should do, however, is pick this up right away. It's a great sampler and if you do happen to want more, go for it, but this album is the best place to start. 7/10"
