""Whatever piece I write and record, I feel a certain way about it, and it's really nice to run into people who say they like it, too. That's the whole reason I do this for a living. I want to try to communicate these feelings and have people feel the same way as I do." ~ Earl Klugh ~
Released in 2007, "Ultimate Earl Klugh" is a perfect compilation CD to introduce a new listener to the incredible guitar artistry of Earl Klugh, a Detroit born multi-Grammy award guitarist/composer/arranger. It contains some of his best recorded tunes from his discography. The entire CD promises an exquisite listening experience with the magic guitar of Mr. Klugh that will definitely put the listeners in a relaxed frame of mind.
This collection was taken from various hit albums that he recorded in the span of thirty-some years. Earl Klugh's style of playing is marked by musical intelligence and sophistication as evident with the most beautiful melodies from this set, there's "Living Inside Your Love" to begin with. The background vocals are provided by a Grammy winner jazz stylist, Patti Austin, together with Vivian Cherry and Lani Groves. He is also supported by some of the greatest musicians in the jazz scene such as George Benson (guitar), Dave Grusin (piano), Ralph McDonald and Paulinho Da Costa (percussion), Ralph Armstrong and Marcus Miller (bass), Steve Gadd and Harvey Mason (drums), Lee Ritenour (guitar) and Bob James (keyboards), just to name a few among many others. And not to mention the able support of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The chart arrangements were written by Don Sebesky and Dave Grusin. With all these big and reputable names in the industry, you can never go wrong with this compilation CD. It's a worthy addition to your Earl Klugh collection.
The entire CD is such a delight to listen to, but the most sublime cuts include "Emily," "Midnight In San Juan," "Heart String," and "Brazilian Stomp." Give it your welcoming ears and enjoy!
Wholeheartedly recommended."
