Some of the best Earl Klugh

"As with most "best" collections, there are always some songs you'd replace with others you like even more (I guess that's what CD burners are for). This CD, nonetheless, has several goodies on it. "Tropical Legs" is a perfect example of Klugh going where he wants to and making a catchy, feel-good tune. "Calypso Getaway" is one of my favorite Klugh tunes because of its great melody, rhythm, percussion (compliments of Paulinho da Costa), and orchestration (by Johnny Mandel). Another great performance is James Taylor's "Long Ago and Far Away," which Klugh plays with tenderness and a sense of "longing." Klugh often gets the best musicians to work with him, and included here are Dave Grusin, Phil Upchurch, Ralph MacDonald, Steve Gadd, and Lee Ritenour."
