Hines in Dixieland mode

"A sample of Earl "Fatha" hines playing Dixieland style, which was pretty much what he was stuck with from the 1950s through the mid-1960s when he was "rediscovered" as a serious jazz innovator. He did not abandon his New Orlenas/Dixieland standards entirely even then, as this live set shows. You can tell he selected the pieces mostly to be crowd-pleasers. The Crescendo club on L.A.'s Sunset Strip is a noisy place, giving this album the flavor of a live set in a New Orleans pizza joint. A fine album when that suits your mood, and great to turn way up when you're mad at the upstairs neighbors (unless they like Dixieland)."
