"Dwight Twilley gives us a fresh glimpse at the rough stages songs such as "Carrie" or "Black Eyes" go through during their creation. Much like the Beatles bootleg outtakes that many musicians and songwriters study for inspiration, Dwights release reminds us that some of the main ingrediants in popular rock music still is urgency and tension. "Rarities" was recorded mostly during 4 tracked loosely tightroped sessions, but after a few seconds your ears adjust to the garage of sound and discover why these melodies would not go away and miss the light of day. It defintely is a must have stepping stone to "Tulsa" and the rest of Dwight Twilleys catalog."
