Dvorák's Fifth Symphony is relatively unknown, which will surprise you once you listen to it. To put the matter succinctly: to hear it is to love it. This is Dvorák's most rustic, charming symphony. Its tunes breathe the atmosphere of the countryside, and the finale is one of the composer's most dramatic. It also provided the model for Brahms's much later Third Symphony, which is in the same key and has several other points in common. This performance is sunny and idiomatic.
