Musical Selections are Superb!

"There could not be a better choice of Czech music than you'll find in this album, and the performaces are as exciting as the pieces. The only reason I can't give it a full 5 stars is that the fidelity isn't quite at the superior level -- something I've noticed with other CDs manufactured in the Czech Republic, and which they need to remedy.Dvorak's wonderful "Prague Waltzes" and "Polonaise" and Suk's "Fantastic Scherzo" take the starring roles in this CD, for sheer excitement, beauty and performance. The "Fantastic Scherzo" -- long one of my favorite short works -- is more a diabolical waltz or lander, hypnotically repetitious. When you listen to it you can certainly tell where Basil Poledouris got the idea for his "invasion of the tower" sequence in CONAN THE BARBARIAN. (Hm! Now you know the kind of movies I watch!)"
