"Don't you just love it when classic recordings get reissued on CD at a budget price! Such is the case with this title in EMI's "Encore" series featuring Dvorak's Cello Concerto and Brahms' Double Concerto. I had previously owned this account of the Dvorak via the old Seraphim 2CD series, and it has always been one of my favorites. Cellist Paul Tortelier might not have as much name recognition as Rostropovich, du Pre or Yo-Yo Ma, but his account of the Dvorak (with conductor Andre Previn leading the London Symphony Orchestra from 1977) can certainly hold its own with those by the aforementioned greats of the instrument. And speaking of greats, violinist Yehudi Menuhin joins Tortelier (this time with Paavo Berglund conducting the London Philharmonic Orchestra) for an outstanding 1984 rendition of the Brahms Double. In all, this is another stunning "Encore" from the folks at EMI."
