"There are Symphonic Orchestras that seem to exert a fascinating and mesmerizing enchantement on the listener. And that's has been my personal experience since I heard it from the first time. On the other hand Vaclav Talich molded and conferred it with a peculiar and expressive sound; dislike the Russian Orchestras that possess the well known nasality, the Czech Philharmonic has established itself among the best twelve ensembles around the world; supported by an admirable strings section, a legendary woods and overwhelming metals, has been motive of special proud for Czechs and visitors. Szell and Stokowski loved that ensemble, and added their contribution to enhance more and more. Besides the impressive list of notable Czech conductors have permitted to maintain a cohesive and continuous improvement along the XX Century: Neumann, Smetacek, Kubelik, are conclusive evidence.
This version of the Symphonic Dances might be considered as the jauntiest, dynamic, mercurial and propulsive among all the previous or later performances I have ever heard. Talich knew to impress the clear ornamentation, impeccable phrasing, splendid articulation and sturdy musculature these works.
Not only a historical document, but a reference recording and obligated parameter respect all the others are measured.
