Synopsis

Album Description
One of Britain?s most creative and distinctive pianists, Julian Jacobson enjoys a wide-ranging career as soloist, ensemble & duo partner, composer & arranger, conductor, and teacher. He has appeared as soloist with the London Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, BBC Symphony, City of Birmingham Symphony, English Chamber Orchestra, the London Mozart Players and the London & Bournemouth Sinfoniettas. Jacobson?s enormous repertoire includes the 32 sonatas of Beethoven, which he once performed in a single day in London. His numerous recordings include works of Weber, Schumann, Martinu, Dvorák and Enescu, and he performs the title music on the prestigious video Great Pianists of the 20th Century. Although piano music cannot be said to have been Dvorák?s forte, many of his pieces are highly successful in their fresh and charming way. This album presents a selection of the best from the composer?s keyboard catalogue, including the universally popular 8th Humoresque, one of the most familiar tunes in all of classical music. It has been arranged countless times in everything from symphonic guise to a bawdy song, but this is the original!

"Amazon description's above about Julian Jacobson is complete and describes very well this great interpreter. He's one of Britain's most creative and distinctive pianists as said and this really interesting and original recording proves it. I think this is the only recording about Dvorak's piano music maybe because this great composer is just known for his beautiful and frequently performed Ninth E minor symphony "From the New World". This piano music is simply fantastic and intriguing characterized by original melodies mixing very well pentatoninc and diatonic tonalities. Meridian's sound quality is excellent. Highly recommended!"
