CD ReviewsDefinitive sixties solo hits collection Peter Durward Harris | Leicester England | 09/18/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "This compilation focuses on the sixties solo music that Dusty is best remembered for, presenting forty of her finest recordings (in chronological order) including all Dusty's British and American hits from that period. You must look elsewhere for Dusty's early folk-pop music with the Springfields (Island of dreams, Silver threads and golden needles, Say I won't be there) and her later music of the seventies and beyond.
I only want to be with you, I just don't know what to do with myself, You don't have to say you love me and Son of a preacher man were all huge hits in Britain and America. Stay awhile, All I see is you, Give me time and I'll try anything were also hits in both countries for Dusty, though not as big. Losing you, another major British hit, was only a minor American hit. Wishing and hoping, All cried out, What's it gonna be, The look of love, Windmills of your mind and A brand new me were American hits that did not chart for Dusty in Britain. I close my eyes and count to ten, In the middle of nowhere, Some of your loving, Little by little, Going back, Your hurting kind of love and How can I be sure were British hits that failed to make the Billboard top 100 in America but they are great songs and it's good to see them included here. With a total of forty tracks, there is some room for B-sides and failed singles. Among these, my favorites are Summer is over and Morning please don't come. If you want a comprehensive compilation of Dusty's solo music of the sixties, this is the one to go for." |
